Our Field & Trial diets have been specially developed for working dogs and the range provides for every need, throughout their lifetime.

Field & Trial diets have been specifically developed for the needs of working dogs.

Skinner’s are proud sponsors of the England Gundog Team.

British made, high quality and nutritious complete food for working dogs, made at our own Suffolk mill.

Recommended by breeders and gun dog owners. Specially formulated to meet the needs of working dogs.

The Skinner’s family have been milling at Stradbroke in Suffolk since 1688

Today we make a range of excellent foods for working dogs, whatever their age, breed or condition.

Much has changed since it all began, the mill has long since gone to be replaced by the very latest state-of-the-art equipment, but the same family passion still continues today.

Our Field & Trial range has been developing since the early 1970s, when it all began with just two products. As our reputation grew and customers demanded different diets to suit their working dogs’ needs, so the range has expanded.

High performance diets for working dogs, whatever their life stage, breed or condition.

Field & Trial sensitive diets for adult working dogs

Our Field & Trial sensitive diets have all been specifically formulated to exclude ingredients that are known to cause sensitivities or allergies. Therefore reducing the likelihood of associated skin, coat and digestive problems.

There are currently three flavours to choose from in the Field & Trial sensitive adult diet range.

Duck and Rice and Salmon and Rice are both big favourites with many of our customers, whilst the Turkey & Rice has the added benefit of a joint aid supplement. They are all free from wheat, maize, barley, soya and dairy products.

All three also contain glucosamine and chondroitin to help protect your dog’s joints and mobility and they also include a coating of sunflower oil, which is a valuable source of energy and helps to maintain a healthy coat.

Field & Trial diets for adult working and extra hard-working dogs

Field & Trial Working 23 and Superior diets are strong favourites in the professional working dog community. If your dogs are working hard all day they will need the right blend of protein, oils, vitamins and minerals for the sustained stamina needed out in the field.

The beef in Working 23 provides high levels of protein for strong muscles along with calcium and phosphorous for strong teeth and bones.

Particularly popular with owners of racing Huskies, Field & Trial Superior meets the needs of all breeds of extra hard-working dogs, providing all the energy and stamina needed for those long days in the field.

Because Superior is wheat gluten free, we also recommend it for female dogs in whelp and throughout lactation.

For working dogs that have a moderate to high energy requirement, Field & Trial Crunchy offers a chicken and cereal based diet with a higher protein level, to ensure the sustained stamina required for a busy day in the field.

Field and Trial diet for the closed season and retirement

Field & Trial Maintenance Plus has been specially formulated to include joint aid for dogs which can help maintain healthy joints and flexibility of movement throughout the life of your dog.

It contains easily digestible chicken providing the correct level of protein for the maintenance of strong muscles, teeth and bones.

Maintenance Plus meet the needs of working dogs undertaking light work or at rest during the close season and for older working dogs that can benefit from the inclusion of joint aid for dogs.

  1. The best
I was buying £70 dog food for my two springers then I found out about this brand at a fraction of the cost and far better quality, nice shiny coats, good poops and the dogs love it.

  2. Better value, nutrition, and colour than most other commercial dog foods.
Prior to receiving this 15KG bag of skinners 23, my dog ( a male bedlington terrier) was on bakers complete which, at around £3 per kg works out at a whopping £45 per 15kg. Skinners on the other hand, through amazon, works out at less than £1.20 per kg.This, combined with recently finding out that bakers is filled with complete rubbish in relation to e-numbers, artificial colourants and the startling discovery that bakers often causes skin irritation and “nuclear” coloured poo in dogs (symptoms my dog has had for his entire adult life whilst on bakers) I decided it was time to try and tighten the purse strings a bit and find my dog a better and more nutritionally balanced food for my dog. This product has a higher percentage of protein than bakers and other brands which is vital for muscle growth and repair, as well as a distinct lack of un-necessary food colourants. This food is just simple brown round pellets, whereas bakers and other similar commercial dog food contains yellow, orange and green bits that have been artificially enhanced according to my research – who wants that in dog food?!Now for the taste side of things – obviously I can’t speak personally about this, but I think my dog was pretty happy with it. In order to prevent any sickness, I did a bowl of 50% bakers and 50% skinners. To my surprise he bounced into the living room waggling his tail and wiping his face on the carpet which is something he usually never does – he usually leaves about 40% of his food and walks into the living room and goes to sleep. I went into the kitchen to find all of the skinners eaten, and all of the bakers left behind… So I think that alone speaks volumes. As for the poo side of things, his used to be very sloppy and hard to pick up with poo bags. Today his poo was very similar in consistency although saying that he’s only had 2 meals. So I think I need to update this in a few weeks to report whether his poos have gained colour and consistency.Like his poo, his skin hasn’t changed either. He has red patches at the base of his tail and under belly (despite being up to date with de-flea bath, drops and wormer)and this is yet to dissipate. However, as previously stated this is only his 2nd day on this food so I don’t really have anything to report. All in all: fast service, nutritionally balanced product, good value, big bag that will last 4 months for my dog unlike a 1kg bag which lasts roughly a week and is a pain to lug about – this came straight to my door.I’d say 5/5 but I haven’t been able to see the full benefits of changing my dogs diet as of yet. Therefore I will give this product a 4/5 until I can inform you all of how he is doing. :)PS, as a side note, please pay no mind to the “working dog” side of this product. My dog is just a pet receiving about an hour of exercise or less per day and the term “working dog” just means the product contains more protein and carbs than other “pet” products. So if you’re torn between this one and a “pet” food – this wins everytime. 🙂

  3. Doggy happy
Fast delivery and doggy is happy with his new food. He is fussy with his food, like the fact it comes in big sacks.

  4. Good Dog Food
Dog food is very good.Only downside was delivery. It was just dumped by my front door quite late in the evening. If I hadn’t got home late ish it would have sat on my doorstep all night. The foxes would have had a great time eating the food.

  5. Dogs hated it
In all fairness I ordered the wrong one and they did not like it and refused to eat it. I put some out for the foxes and they did the same! Luckily for me, the crows and magpies love it.Strange because I very much support the company.I will leave a fair stair review.
